Ashlee's Mars Profile
Mars- Self- Assertion and Sexual Drive
Mars is all about getting what you desire. This takes drive, including sexual drive, initiative and primarily courage. But basically Mars symbolizes raw energy, and as such needs direction, discipline and conviction as well as consideration. Without direction or discipline Mars can give rise to violence, anger, abuse and selfishness. Without conviction or contacting one's anger there is cowardice and possibly being a victim of aggression for Mars is like a weapon or tool that if not picked up and used can be grabbed and used against you. Without consideration there is impatience and strife. You need Mars to win, with its greatest prize being independence. And in order to win anything or anyone you have to be prepared to risk loosing or getting hurt by being in the firing line.
The planet Mars is the symbol for two basic expressions of the life force; it symbolizes the kind of action we take to express our Sun sign qualities; it can also be used to determine how we "act" sexually. When looking at the planet Mars, it should be considered in relation to the Sun and Moon: the Sun (the "I am" principle) and the Moon ("I respond" principle) are compared with Mars (how "I act" this out) Mars is the symbol of how we will manifest who and what we are, what we have, what we think, what we feel. Mars can be used as an indicator of how we will function in a work situation; the sign house placement and aspects can be used as determining factors when giving career guidance. It also symbolizes how we will "act out" our feelings of love when we consider this planet with Venus, the symbol for our intellectual concept of what love means to us.
In ancient times Mars ruled over Aries and Scorpio. Aries is the action sign; it symbolizes the pioneering spirit, the adventurer, the explorer of the undiscovered. Scorpio is the sign of reproduction, death, and one's potential for self-transformation; it's the sign of conscious rebirth. The life/death enigma symbolizes by Scorpio has been difficult to understand, but life and death function together, because of each other. Without darkness we can't see light, and without life there is no death and visa versa. In the symbolism of the house system, the first house (the Aries or Mars house) stands for any new endeavor, any new action taken. the eighth house (The Scorpio or ancient Mars house) indicates the reproductive system, the reproductive ability, and here Mars has to do with rebirth as well.
Staying with the astrological symbolism , and considering the ancient philosophical edict, "know thyself" can the chart show the dilemma caused in each of us when we struggle with "I am " and "I act?" The action principle comes from the first house, which can be called the persona, the masquerade of personality, our , "best foot forward" The sun is the natural ruler of the fifth house and it symbolizes the creative self, which may never really be expressed in a lifetime. The fifth house can be read as the house of children, and many people have worked towards achieving immortality by being remembered through children and their children's children. However, Mars energy can conceivably activate the consciousness as well as our reproductive organs. But in order for that to happen we must become responsible for our actions.
If Mars represents the libido, the sex drive, and represents our ability to transform as well, then Mars can be called the symbol upon which our chance for consciousness rests. The Mars energy represents action; it can also represent anger. When angry energy is rechanneled, it becomes "gold" It provides the energy that enables up to rise the Sun sign potential to the highest levels possible in a lifetime.
as Mars interacts with the other planets in the chart; the action energy becomes more and more complicated and exciting. Each nuance of unconstructive energy must be looked into and developed if the Sun is ever going to become expressive of its full potential. Because Mars rules both Aries and Scorpio, it seems that our sexual decisions will affect our conscious growth, for if we cannot express ourselves in a healthy or happy manner, we slow down our sun- the eighth house squares the fifth in the natural zodiac. In the oriental philosophies, one hears about the "wheel of life" and everyone involved is trying to get off the wheel , not to stop living but one must stop being unconscious in order to become conscious!
In the personal sense, the Sun indicates our personal archetype and the family environment that existed when we were forming our personalities. As each child manifests the "I act" principle, that energy becomes recognized in the family. If the child has difficulties with the parents, the difficulties will show up because of the aspects between Mars and the Sun, Moon, Venus, or Saturn. The child's action principle, as well as the development of sexual concepts, will be affected by the parent appropriate to the aspect. When Mars is afflicted, it means that the facets of life described by the planets involved will need to be consciously changed in order to allow maximum inner contentment.
Mars in Libra
You aim to get what you want and to please others at the same time. If successful in this you are quite the social mover. When, more commonly, this is not the case, you are left with the extreme alternatives of either satisfying your desires by being involved in something, which only concerns yourself, or being an indecisive yes person- or see-sawing between the two.
There is therefore a danger of you becoming insular or ineffectual, whether it is in a business or a sexual situation. As if to force the issues then, you are attracted to quite pushy or quick-tempered partners. And so sooner or later you have to get in touch with your own powers of self- assertion and be more unequivocal. until then, unless you are happy in the role of social buffer or arbitrator, you can be uncomfortably over sensitive to the reactions and opinions of others. Always remember: you cannot please everyone.
Mars in the 5th House
Whatever your manner of self-assertion, because you have a lust for life you run into plenty of opportunities to exercise it. You are rather like a sparkling plug is to gasoline. Be it an affair of the heart, a business enterprise or whatever, things are set in unstoppable motion by your verve and desire.
If you are not aware of this productive streak in your nature, you will attract rivalry anyway- or else you could have children who are bold and arrogant. But really it is you that is the forceful one, and although there is the danger of being crude and unsubtle, going wholeheartedly for the object of your desire is in order.
The Aspects
Mars trine Sun
(Already discussed in the Big 3 Aspected)
Mars Sextile Uranus
Mars represents the action principle; it indicates how we will activate the energy of the self qualities symbolized by the sun archetype. Uranus indicates the behavior of the generation into which we are born. It also indicates that part of the personality which is self-willed, stubborn or eccentric. Uranus can symbolize creative energy, for it rules the sign of Aquarius and indicates how we will crystallize our ideas about consciousness.
Mars-Uranus aspects can indicate a certain kind of genius, for the person is motivated to action that is based on unusual insights. When the energy is misunderstood, it can cause erratic or eccentric action to take place, but these manifestations are more often tied to the hard aspects.
Mars represents the "I act" principle and Uranus indicates the behavior of the generation we are born into, as well as the part of us that expresses as self-will before it evolves consciously.
The sextile indicates that the action patterns formed by this individual in childhood were well received by the parents. The early environment demonstrated the ability to act (or sex) in a manner that expressed the will, allowing the child room for being "different" so that he could form his own particular value system. The value system can be diagnosed from the signs and houses.
Mars Square Neptune
Mars represents the action principle, the physical action taken to represent the self as it is symbolized by the Sun archetype. Neptune is the planet that symbolizes inspiration, creative fantasy, delusion. When these planets are joined together, creative fantasy and action are combined. We can take action to express our creative ideas; we can take action to express our ideas of spiritual creativity as well. Actions may be inspired by some ethereal creative urges, or our actions may be inspired by an illusion, or we may delude ourselves and our actions will be colored by our particular delusion.
Because Mars represents the sex drive, the Neptune contact will influence the sexual attitudes. It may add inspiration and spiritual love to the sexual expression, or it may warp the desires. It may veil sexuality with a could of guilt, or may help develop imaginative techniques that can be most enjoyable. The easy aspects are more productive than the hard aspects.
Here the action principle works against the creative energy within the individual. Neptune inspires or deludes one, and in the case of the square, the tendency is to take deluded action or action that is not carefully thought out. In terms of expressing the qualities of the Sun archetype, the Neptune influence may serve to confuse the action taken; the Sun-mars energy may not be operating in a clearly defined manner. Maya, the veil of illusion or delusion ( as described in Hindu symbolism) often takes over the action principle. This can be a creative aspect, however, but the creative energy tends to be disorganized. The tension of the unexpressed creative energy can cause too much fantasy, too much imagination, and this individual may resort to alcohol or drugs if he doesn't know how to release the energy any other way. He may find the physical universe unpleasant, he may be uncomfortable coping with the realities of day to day environment.
This individual may be prone to spiritual misinformation, he may search out all the groups that lead him down a religious path merely involved with religious theory and little practice. It's important that he discover a life philosophy that he can live, a life philosophy that he can put into practice in his daily experience. As he examines his previous actions, as he examines his previous ideas, he can begin to determine what is illusion and what is creative fantasy. The energy of the hard aspect can be rechanneled into highly productive activity, but it won't just "happen" he has to make a conscious effort.
The Mars- Neptune square influences sexual expression as well. These people may have sexual fantasies, and depending on the other aspects in the chart, will use fantasy either constructively or destructively. Neptune adds a spiritual flavor to anything that it touches, for it has to do with the concept of spiritual love. Spiritual love and sex don't always express well together until the conflicts between the two ideas have been consciously understood. Feelings of guilt may interfere with normal sexuality.
A Female with this aspect may feel so guilty about "the animal nature" that she becomes frigid. Guilt can manifest in an unhealthy expression of the sexual nature, for this person may attempt to live out sexual fantasies, or become involved in sexual relationships with people he or she doesn't love.
The conflict can be dispersed when the concept of sexuality and the concept of spirituality are explored. If this person was taught that sex is "dirty" those teachings need to be re-examined, for mother nature is not "dirty" The cultural or religious teachings that propagate such misinformation could be better examined. A healthy and comfortable expression of the love nature can be developed.
Putting it All Together:
My life has been about pleasing others. I was denied doing things for myself and was forced to do things for others; I wasn't allowed to shine the way that I do now... my creative genius wasn't acknowledged or given room to spread. I had to keep that pretty close to my heart. I didn't have an issue with sexual things; I was pretty curious about them but I knew the difference between fantasy and reality. Mixed with everything else you we have discussed about my childhood you can see that I had to overcome a lot of "weakness" in order to become the balanced person that I am today.
